Midfielder Carlos Gruezo’s transfer to the San Jose Earthquakes is also finally confirmed.
The FCA front office also confirmed the departure of Danish center-back Frederik Winther on Tuesday. The 22-year-old has made five Bundesliga appearances since arriving from Lyngby Boldklub in the summer of 2021. Augsburg actually purchased the young talent in October of 2020 for €1.3 million in October of 2020, but loaned him back to his Danish side immediately for further developmental purposes. Similar aims will see him play for Brøndby IF in Copenhagen this time.
“We are sure that the move to Brøndby IF will do Frederik Winther a lot of good,” Augsburg sporting director Stefan Reuter noted in a club statement, “There, he will meet Jesper Sörensen, a coach under whom he made his debut in the Danish U21 national team. This will help him to quickly settle into the new team. We wish Frederik Winther all the best so that he comes back to Augsburg with plenty of playing minutes after the loan.”
“I want to be on the pitch and unfortunately I was not able to do that as much as I had hoped in the first half of the season,” Winther remarked in his own statement, “Therefore, it is the right step to move to my home country to make as many games as possible at Brøndby IF.”
After all the ins and outs, Augsburg carry a 32-man-roster into the conclusion of the season. Only Köln, Schalke, and Dortmund – with 33-active-players – have larger rosters.
