Saudi Arabia created one of the biggest sensations in the history of the World Cup on the third day of Qatar 2022.

The Saudis beat Argentina 2-1, for many the first favorite of the tournament. Later in the same group, Mexico and Poland played to a goalless draw.

Argentina looked good in the first half. They took the lead through Lionel Messi’s penalty and then came a 23-minute spell in which three of their goals were disallowed. One was given by Messi, one by Angel di Maria and one by Lautaro Martinez. All were canceled due to offside position according to VAR.

Martinez wasn’t the last?

However, images have surfaced on Twitter suggesting the VAR room has made a huge mistake. The picture posted by Flashscore shows the lines drawn for offside. However, it appears that the referees may not have appreciated that the Saudi left-back was closer to the goal than the scorer of the disallowed goal.

Despite this, Argentina has a great chance to get through the group.

With two wins in the remaining two games, they will surely play in the 1/16, and in some combinations four points are enough.

They will play their next game on Saturday against Mexico.
