The French FA confirmed the worst possible scenario for injured Bayern defender Lucas Hernandez late last night.

After being subbed off following just 13 minutes of action in France’s 4-1 win over Australia last night, French national team trainer Didier Deschamps initially covered that the team’s medical staff feared Lucas Hernandez’s injury could be “quite serious”. A little later, the FFF confirmed that the 26-year-old had suffered an ACL tear.
The nature of the injury could very well mean that the defender could be lost to his club team, FC Bayern München, for the duration of the season. As of yet, the FCB has not yet released a statement regarding Hernandez’s injury. At what point the player will be evaluated by the Bayern medical staff remains unclear.
