Timo Werner’s recent form surge came to abrupt end yesterday evening as the German national team striker was subbed off in 19th minute of the 4-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk. According to Guido Schäfer of the local Leipziger Volkszeitung, RB Leipzig have their attacker scheduled for an MRI later today.

The medical procedure would not be on Werner’s docket if the club were not concerned that the 26-year-old might have fractured something. While results could most certainly still be negative, Schäfer writes that Werner’s availability for the weekend fixture against Hoffenheim is “extremely unlikely”.

Leipzig still have Freiburg and Bremen to play in the remaining two league rounds before the World Cup break. Werner would, under normal circumstances, be immediately due in Hansi Flick’s German national team camp as soon as Bundesliga play concludes. RB trainer Marco Rose is sure to provide updates at his coming pre-match presser.
