Pepi's chances of returning to Augsburg slim-to-none

Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims that American striker Ricardo Pepi’s departure from FC Augsburg should be treated as a forgone conclusion.

Ricardo Pepi.

In a recent tweet that, admittedly, offered few specifics Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims that USMNT striker Ricardo Pepi entertains virtually no thoughts of returning to his Bundesliga parent club after this season is over. The El Paso native never managed to net his maiden Bundesliga goal in 15 appearances for Germany’s FC Augsburg.
Since moving to FC Groningen on loan this autumn, the 19-year-old has recaptured his form. Pepi has scored six goals and chipped in an assist in eight appearances across all competitions for the Erdevisie outfit. He is essentially considered a shoe-in for US National team head-coach Gregg Berhalter’s World Cup side.

While there is, at present, no reliable information as to whether the Dutch side have a purchase option built in to Pepi’s loan-agreement, Romano argues that this essentially will not matter. A strong World Cup will undoubtably showcase the American’s talent to the globe. One can most certainly expect a rise in the youngster’s current estimated market worth of €9 million.
