In his press conference, Bayern manager Julian Nagelsmann commented about the status of strikers Mathys Tel and Eric Choupo-Moting.

Before their Champions League match against Viktoria Plzen, coach Julian Nagelsmann answered questions regarding Bayern’s two sole current no. 9’s in the first team squad:
“Mathys Tel is a candidate for the starting XI. He is a young, talented player. He does a lot of things very well. He also has a few things that he needs to change. We have players with certain standing and experience. Mathys has to develop and he is doing that.”
The 35-year-old trainer added that, “Lothar Matthäus (pundit) said that when I bring Choupo on instead of (Tel), it would cause a lot of conversation in the dressing room. I don’t think so.”
Nagelsmann defended his decision to bring on Choupo-Moting instead of Tel in their disappointing Der Klassiker draw on Matchday 9:
“Choupo-Moting was better suited against Dortmund as a substitute, so we decided for him at the weekend. – We have a game every 3 to 4 days. That’s why we have to also consider Sunday’s game (against Freiburg).”
