“The TSG made the better deal.”

Both David Raum and Spanish wingback Angelino are off to somewhat tepid starts for their new clubs following a high-profile swap this offseason.

One could still nevertheless say that, on balance, that Leipzig did better to procure Raum based on playing time.

The ever-outspoken Angelino, to the surprise of no one, disagrees.

At least Raum has maintained a starting spot under two different Leipzig trainers, Domenico Tedesco and Mardi Rose. The 24-year-old German international has started all seven league fixtures and featured in all ten of the team’s competitive games. Angelino, on the other hand, has turned in some very unconvincing performances as he battles with Robert Skov for a starting spot.

The Spaniard was asked about his issues in a recent interview for the TSG’s “Spielfeld” matchday program. Never shy about expressing his opinion, the 25-year-old went ahead and promoted his own brand.

“Simply stated, the TSG made the better deal,” Angelino noted.

As something of a bonus for the TSG fans perusing the program on the coming matchday, Angelino went on to discuss his desire to remain with the club long-term. Hoffenheim sold Raum to Leipzig outright whereas the Spaniard could only be procured on loan.

“Football is a business and I can’t ultimately control it,” he said of the loan-arrangement, “but of course I’d like to find a home in the long term. I’d like to play in the TSG jersey for a long time.”
