Here is your Arsenal morning digest on Friday, June 24.

Marseille wants Tavares on loan

Marseille are reportedly keen to take on another Arsenal loanee this season following the success William Saliba enjoyed at the Stade Velodrome. According to Footmercato, Jorge Sampaoli’s side have submitted a loan offer to the Gunners for Nuno Tavares, who faces an increasingly uncertain futures at the Emirates Stadium.

The 22-year-old defender started just 13 Premier League games this season for Mikel Arteta’s side and struggled to assert himself in the first-team despite Kieran Tierney’s injury misfortunes. The report adds that Marseille have included an option-to-buy in their proposal for the left-back, though the fee is currently unknown.

Tavares, who sees his contract with the north London outfit expire in 2025, has been heavily linked with a move to Atalanta lately and, in negotiations, Edu demanded £35million from the Italian side, according to the Express. With Tavares currently valued closer to £25.7million by CIES Football Observatory, it’s unlikely that Arsenal will rake in the entirety of their asking price.

Leeds search for Raphinha replacement

Leeds United have dropped a huge hint that could hand Arsenal a boost in their efforts to sign Raphinha this summer. The 25-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium and, while Edu has reportedly had an opening bid rejected, Jesse Marsch looks to be planning for life at Elland Road without his talisman.

According to Footmercato journalist Sébastien Denis, Leeds have identified Gunners target Cody Gakpo as a potential replacement for Raphinha. Last month, football.london understood that Arsenal were interested in bringing the 23-year-old PSV winger to London Colney but, since Leeds have given Raphinha’s departure the green light, Edu seems to have now set his sights on the Brazil international.

The Brazilian has a £65million release clause, according to The Guardian. Arsenal are said to have already had an opening bid rejected, but the Gunners are reportedly intent on signing Raphinha, with a second offer on the way.

Nketiah accepts Arsenal challenge

Arteta is said to be in the market for a centre-forward this summer following the departures of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette. Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for the Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus and technical director Edu has held talks with the player’s representatives in recent months, football.london understands.

But, Nketiah has insisted that he’s unfazed as to whether the Gunners boss signs a new No. 9, who would naturally pose competition for first-team opportunities. He said: “Every team needs a squad to compete. The club is always looking for ways to strengthen. They have extended my deal and they have done so for a reason. Whoever comes in, you relish the challenge. You make them feel welcome, and then you fight and compete.”
