Both RB Leipzig and DSC Arminia Bielefeld confirmed defender Frederik Jäkel’s new loan arrangement on Monday evening.

One half of the reported upon “RB Leipzig ship outs” from the weekend has been confirmed. Germany U21 international Frederik Jäkel is headed to Amina Bielefeld on a season-long loan. German footballing magazine Kicker reports that the second division side have also secured an option to buy.
The 21-year-old defender, who still has not made an appearance for Leipzig on the senior level, did enjoy a breakout campaign of sorts whilst on an extended loan with K.V. Oostende in the Belgian pro league. He made 25 appearances for de Kustboys last season and scored three goals. Germany U21 head-coach Antonio di Salvo certainly took notice of his development.
“With Frederik, we are gaining a young player with great potential and a great character,” new DSC trainer Uli Forte noted in a press release, “Frederik has asserted himself in Belgium and now wants to take the next step. He’s in the right place to do so with us.”
“Frederik has made a big step forward in men’s soccer in Belgium and has developed very well in a very intense league,” sporting director Samir ARabi added, “He is far from the end of his development as a young German defender. Therefore, we are very happy that Frederik don our jersey on his path.”
Jäkel, after Sidney Raebiger, is the second confirmed Leipzig departure of the day. A third departure of a youth academy player–Eric Martel to 1. FC Köln—should be confirmed soon.
