Matt Turner to Arsenal might be the worst-kept transfer secret in the world as all that remains is the official confirmation that he will be the club’s first signing of what is expected to be a busy summer.
There had been some whispers about the 27-year-old joining the Gunners in January as a replacement for Bernd Leno who was being linked with a move away after falling behind Aaron Ramsdale in the pecking order. But as reported by football.london, the plan hasbeen to confirm the signing of the New England Revolution goalkeeper when he flies over to complete a medical this month.
And in an update provided by Turner himself, Arsenal are on course to confirm their first signing of the summer transfer window within the next three weeks as the USMNT stopper is due to join his pregnant wife in London around June 19th – although he can’t be registered until July 1.

“My official release [from Revolution] is the 24th June,” he said when speaking to Fox Sports earlier in the month. “I think the Revs have games on the 19th June and then the 26th. So, I would be available for selection for the 19th but not the 26th. My flight’s booked for right after that game on the 19th.
“My wife is actually heading over three weeks before that because she’s due in July and she’s got to get over there before that 36-week mark so we’re gonna be split apart for three weeks. But she’ll be over there, I’ll get out there and then do my medical and get ready for a new season to start.”
Despite Turner being so open about joining Arsenal as well as a series of hints and ‘accidental’ announcements on social media from himself and most recently the official USMNT Twitter account, whilst there’s no confirmation from the north London outfit, fans just have to remain patient.
However, the USMNT official social media account appears to be on a mission to drum up as much excitement as possible amongst the Arsenal fanbase with regards to the 27-year-old’s imminent arrival as they posted a clip of Turner making a somewhat routine save in a 3-0 win over Morocco with a four-word message that read: “Coming soon to @Arsenal.”
Turner did end up having an eventful outing on one of his final appearances before completing his initial £4.5million transfer to Arsenal as he made eight saves and received a huge slice of luck to keep his clean sheet intact when Selim Amallah smacked a penalty against the crossbar.
Upon joining the Gunners, Turner will be competing with Ramsdale for the number one spot next season. Although he is not expected to be the only new arrival at the Emirates Stadium this summer as the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Aaron Hickey and Youri Tielemans are on Mikel Arteta and Edu’s radar.
