Arsenal will need to address the central midfield and left-back positions in the summer transfer window. Mikel Arteta has been given access to a player that could potentially fill both positions if signed in the summer transfer window.

Oleksandr Zinchenko was marvellous for Ukraine on Wednesday evening, as helped his country reach the World Cup qualifying play-off final. His side came out rampant 3-1 winners over Scotland at Hampton Park.

The 25-year-old played on the left-hand side of central midfield for his country and had completely dominated the match. The Gunners have been linked to the midfielder, and his excellent performance highlighted why Edu should push through with a deal.

The Manchester Evening News

have reported that City will have to convince Zinchenko he will play more regularly next season if they are to fend off interest from Arsenal. The 25-year-old played just 1047 minutes in the Premier League last term, with Portuguese international Joao Cancelo preferred at left-back.

Regular viewers of the Premier League and specifically Manchester City would have only really seen Zinchenko feature in the left-back position, as that is where Pep Guardiola utilises him most. However, he is naturally a midfielder.

His natural comfort in the middle of the park was highlighted by his dominant performance against Scotland. The Gunners are targeting a midfielder in the summer, and Zinchenko should certainly be a part of that list.

Arsenal could be left short in midfield this summer, as football.london understands that Roma are expected to make a fresh attempt to sign Granit Xhaka at the end of the season.

This will mean that Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny would be the only experienced midfielders in the team. Albert Sambi Lokonga certainly has the potential but has yet to show his quality consistently on the Premier League stage.

Mikel Arteta has had problems with the midfield this season due to the lack of quality in squad depth, and that has hindered the club’s progress at times. If the Spaniard opts for three players in the centre of midfield, then Zinchenko would be an excellent option to have on the left-hand side for the future.

The Gunners will need to strengthen at left-back to have better cover for Tierney who has been prone to injury since making the switch from Celtic in 2019. Arsenal had already signed a full-back from Benfica in the previous transfer window after Nuno Tavares joined the club for a £7million fee. Despite an impressive start to life in north London, Tavares gradually showed his defensive vulnerability and inexperience in the position.

football.london understands that Arsenal are in the hunt for a full-back with Bologna’s defender Aaron Hickey a possible signing, but Zinchenko would be a better option due to his versatility.

Zinchenko’s impressive performance against Scotland showed exactly what Arsenal need in the midfield. It is for this reason that Arteta should be doing what it takes to pursue a transfer.
