Arsenal and Chelsea have both received nominations for Premier League save of the season, with Aaron Ramsdale, Bernd Leno and Edouard Mendy all making the cut for their finest stops.
Thomas Tuchel’s side finished in the Champions League places once again and also ended the season with two new pieces of silverware to their name in the form of the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup. Considering the off-field issues that have engulfed the second half of their season, that is no mean feet.
Mendy has been at the centre of a lot of that fine work again, often keeping Chelsea in games with some outstanding shot-stopping at key moments. The save that made the cut this time, however, came early in the campaign when his flying glove denied an acrobatic effort during the 1-0 win away to Brentford.

Up in north London, Mikel Arteta has been spoilt for choice between the sticks. Aaron Ramsdale has come into the side and been an instant hit, making a number of outstanding saves. But the one that stood out above the rest on this occasion is his flying effort to deny James Maddison’s free-kick against Leicester, tipping the ball miraculously onto the bar.
Leno may have fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium, but at the start of the season he was still the main man. Although they lost to Chelsea at home in the second game of the season, the German still pulled off an outrageous save to deny Romelu Lukaku a second goal on his Chelsea debut.
There is some tough competition from outside of London, however. Alisson has been nominated for a point-blank save against Norwich while David De Gea earned two nods. Former Gunner Emi Martinez, Nick Pope and Martin Dubravka join the list but it will be a tough ask for anyone to beat Jordan Pickford’s dramatic effort against Chelsea to earn all three points.
