Chelsea urged to sign own Erling Haaland as Thomas Tuchel faces Man City and Liverpool test - Anita Abayomi

For many years now, the same old story has been replayed for the Chelsea faithful. The Blues would be in a much better position if they had the right calibre of strikers on their side. I can only go off of the possibility that this statement is true. What if the Blues had their ideal striker playing for them? What if they could have won the FA Cup last season or the season before that?

As per every other FA Cup final the Blues have played in Wembley in the last three years, Chelsea did not take their chances. The game was there for them to take but they just fell drastically short which was such a shame. You could argue that things would have been different with a striker such as Erling Haaland or even dare I say it, Robert Lewandowski.

The Bayern Munich forward has confirmed that he will be leaving the German giants this summer. “I can confirm that I spoke to Hasan [Salihamidzic, Bayern sporting director] and informed him that the decision was made — and that I am not extending my contract with FC Bayern,” he told Sky Germany.

Lewandowski has spent most of his career playing in Germany. Whilst he has spent time at both Dortmund and Bayern Munich, the Poland international is used to winning. It comes naturally to him. He is just a prolific goal scorer in need of a new challenge, so I wish to give him just that. He should accept the challenge of taking Chelsea one step closer to their rivals, Manchester City and Liverpool. The chance to play in what is seen as a difficult league and show his doubters that he can deliver under any circumstance.

European football expert, Julien Laurens seems to believe that Lewandowski would be the perfect solution for Chelsea if they are to sell Romelu Lukaku this summer. He told ESPN: “You still need a striker if Lukaku goes. So is Lewandowski the answer? He’s an incredible striker. Will he go to Chelsea? Maybe. If you buy Lewandowski, I think you get close to City and Liverpool.”

The Bundesliga will be losing two prolific goal scorers. Lewandowski is one and Erling Haaland is the other. Manchester City has agreed on a deal with the Norwegian. With 29 goals in 30 games, only one player is able to surpass Haaland’s match to goal ratio from the German league. Lewandowski managed a whopping 50 goals in 46 matches. What better way to close the gap to Manchester City than to sign Haaland’s direct competitor?

If Lewandowski had played for Chelsea in their FA Cup final against Liverpool, I can guarantee a difference in the overall scoreline. The chances missed by Romelu Lukaku and Christian Pulisic would have been buried by the Poland international. He is cut from a different cloth. If we truly are serious about closing the gap, I can’t think of a better way to do so. The 33-year-old is ageing like fine wine and remains one of, if not the best goal scorer today.
