Mohamed Salah still leads the current Premier League goalscoring charts as Liverpool successfully defeated Aston Villa by 2-1 on Tuesday evening, although the Egypt international started on the bench ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup final against Chelsea at Wembley.
Douglas Luiz opened the scoring at Villa Park before Joel Matip and Sadio Mane flipped the scoreline on its head to hand the Reds all three points as they continue to push Manchester City all the way in the Premier League title race.
Salah, who replaced Luis Diaz in the 72nd minute of the contest, failed to find the scoresheet in the West Midlands. Son, who is chasing down the Liverpool forward to claim the award, has just three games remaining in which to do so, starting with his sides stern test against Arsenal in the north London derby on Thursday.

Salah currently leads the way with 22 goals this season, with Son behind by just two goals on 20 strikes thus far. Spurs know they must deny the Gunners from taking all three points if they are to continue their own quest for Champions League football this season.
Liverpool are of course still in the mix for a quadruple this season, but the South Korea international Kane does have an extra game to his advantage in order to attempt to catch the Reds’ No. 11.
But with strugglers Burnley, and already relegated Norwich City still to come for the Lilywhites before the end of the season, the opportunity is still there for Son to catch him up.
