Nicolas Pepe’s proposed move to Sevilla would create space for Arsenal to complete a deal for one of their top targets. Cody Gakpo has been heavily linked with a move to the Gunners in recent times, and now it seems that a deal could be possible.
According to Spanish news outlet Superdeporte, Sevilla have made contact with Arsenal over the signing of Pepe. The report goes on to say that the Gunners are prepared to let him leave.
If Pepe leaves the club then Arsenal will need to strengthen in the wing position. The Gunners have been linked to numerous players in this position but Gakpo would certainly be the most promising.

According to Dutch news outlet Voetbal international, the Gunners are in pole position to sign Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven. The youngster had been linked with a £35m move to the Emirates in the January transfer window but a deal never managed to materialise.
The 22-year-old has played 32 games on the left-hand side for PSV this season and played another three games as a center-forward. However, he has shown a clinical nature from whatever position he is playing in, as he has scored 12 goals from the left-wing and three goals in three games as a striker.
This is similar to Gabriel Martinelli, meaning if the Dutch forward Joined the club, there could be a lot of interchanging between the new signing and the Brazilian. Gakpo could initially struggle to play as a striker in the Premier League due to the increase in competitiveness and physicality compared to the Eredivisie. It would be wise for him to feature on the wings before eventually transitioning into the striker position
Pepe has featured heavily on the right-hand side for Arsenal meaning Gakpo would not be a direct replacement for him. However, Martinelli has had a lot of success when given a chance on the right-hand side, which would open a spot for Gakpo if Arteta is to opt for a more fluid system. Leao’s versatility to also play as a striker also makes him an attractive signing as the Gunners will be short in that position going into next season.
Despite the doubts concerning the winger’s ability to adapt to the Premier League due to the physicality, the Dutchman has already ticked some of Arteta’s boxes when it comes to being important in the dressing room, which has been proven by the fact that Gakpo is vice-captain at PSV. It highlights that he would certainly adapt to the culture at Arsenal.
Pepe’s future is uncertain at the club as according to the Evening standard Arsenal will sit down with the winger and his agent at the end of the season to discuss his future. The winger has two years left on his deal and is expected to leave in the summer.
It seems like a good idea for both parties if Pepe was to leave Arsenal in order to give him a fresh challenge, and for Arsenal to find a better replacement. Gakpo would certainly be a good option for the Gunners.
