Arsenal director of football Edu has made a big transfer promise after it was announced that manager MIkel Arteta had signed a new contract at the Emirates until 2025. Manager of Arsenal women Jonas Eideval has also signed a new contract until 2024.
Arteta has enjoyed a hugely successful season at the helm of the Gunners, leading them to the cusp of a Champions League return for the first time since 2016-17. With just three games left to play in the Premier League season, Arsenal sit in fourth place, two points ahead of local rivals Tottenham.
Whether they make into next season’s Champions League or not, it is clear that the Spaniard is leading the club in the right direction with an attractive brand of attacking football brought back to the club. But Arteta is determined to keep the Gunners moving forward.

“We want to take the club to the next level and to compete really with the top teams,” he told the club’s official website. “In order to do that, we have to be playing in the Champions League. We have to be able to evolve the team, improve our players, improve all departments, generate even more connection with our fans, improve the atmosphere at the Emirates, be able to recruit top, top talent and the best people for this club to drive this project to that level.”
This summer is set to be an incredibly busy one for the club, however. A number of new signings are needed to contend with the rigours of European football and the likes of Alexandre Lacazette, Eddie Nketiah, Mohamed Elneny and Granit Xhaka all linked with summer moves.
But it appears Edu is on the same page as Arteta when it comes to transfers, saying: “I think the timing is perfect. I really believe the message will be a big lift to everyone. To the fans, to the club, to the players, to Mikel. It’s important to show everyone where we want to go as a club. We are going to face a big summer again and it’s important to have our manager here.”
