West Ham suffered a disappointing 1-2 home defeat in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final on Thursday night and will come into this match against Arsenal knowing that they need a win if they want their place assured in the competition next season.

Arsenal meanwhile have had no European football to worry about this season but will be hoping that it is on the agenda for next season as their bid to qualify for the Champions League continues. The Gunners are just two points ahead of Tottenham in the race for the top four and know a win here would go a long way to securing their place ahead of a mammoth North London Derby on May 12.

Mikel Arteta’s men have won their last two Premier League matches back to back to re-establish themselves as the leading contender for a place in the top four. The Hammers, meanwhile, still have an outside chance but know that if they lose here then winning the Europa League will be the most likely route into Europe’s elite competition this season.
