In an interview with Europe 1, Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino discussed this year’s Ligue 1 title win, dismissing any indication that it was an easy season domestically for the club.

“Expectations were high. It’s clear that PSG’s main objective in the last few years was the Champions League, but a club’s 10th title in 50 years should not be undervalued. 50 years of history, 10 titles. I think that puts us in a good position in France, and it’s true that it can seem small for a club like PSG that always wants to win the Champions League.”

“I think we need to value this title because we need to consolidate the club’s history with titles. I arrived last year, the team was in 3rd place with a lot of problems, with 12 injuries and with Covid… We didn’t win the league then and it was very frustrating. That’s why we need to value this one, even if we were very upset not to be winning the Champions League.”

“[…] It’s a title I’ll always love as a coach. I was in teams like Espanyol, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, where it’s very hard to win league titles. This is the first time I have had the chance to do so, with PSG, and it’s very special for me. The title was won by the team, by 30 players. The role of every player is fundamental.”
