Southampton host Crystal Palace at St Mary’s Stadium this afternoon with both sides hoping to get back to winning ways in the Premier League.
Only two points and one position separate today’s teams in the table, with the Saints narrowly ahead of Patrick Vieira’s side by sitting in 13th. A win for the hosts this afternoon would push them into the top half if other results go their way while Palace would leapfrog them past the 40-point mark with a victory.
The south Londoners have not won a match since the beginning of April, losing three in a row to Leicester, Chelsea and Newcastle before Monday’s goalless draw with Leeds. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side meanwhile drew against Brighton last time out and lost 2-0 to Burnley prior to that.
Both sides played out an entertaining 2-2 draw earlier in the season which featured two stunners from James Ward-Prowse and Armando Broja. Wilfried Zaha had opened the scoring inside two minutes before the Saints came roaring back into the match, only for Jordan Ayew to equalise in the second half to force the points to be shared.
