Carlo Ancelotti drops Antonio Rudiger transfer hint amid Real Madrid links to Chelsea star

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has played down the club’s interest in Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger, playfully pretending he did not know who the defender was before refusing to be drawn on a move for the Germany international.

The former Everton head coach was speaking following his team’s 4-3 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night, with the German international said to be close to agreeing a move to the Bernabeu.

Madrid were yet again involved in another Champions League classic, as seven goals were netted across a thoroughly entertaining contest.

With the Blues seemingly set to lose one of their best performers over the past two seasons later this year, both the La Liga leaders and Bayern Munich had been touted as two possible destinations.

Ancelotti’s side are even rumoured to have already agreed terms with the 29-year-old. However, the Italian remained tight-lipped regarding the ongoing speculation.

“Who is this?” smirked Ancelotti, as he was asked by beIN SPORTS about the Chelsea defender. “He is a Chelsea player and is still a Chelsea player and I cannot say nothing about this.”

Rudiger has of course long been involved in ongoing contract talks with the Blues since the start of the season, with it now no more evident that the German international will depart the club this summer.

Helping the side to a second Champions League title just last year, the former Roma defender will be a notable miss in defence, with the future’s of Cesar Azpilicueta and Andreas Christensen still up in arms also.
