Chelsea paid out the third-highest amount in agent fees in the Premier League over the past 12 months, the FA have confirmed. The governing body have released their annual review into intermediary fees in the top five levels of English football, with the Blues racking-up one of the highest spend of the lot.
According to the figures, Chelsea paid out approximately £28.2million in fees since last February, contributing to an overall spend of £272million across the division. Agent fees can of course be charged for a variety of services, the most common being their role in transfer or contract negotiations.
Whilst the reigning European champions were not actually too busy on the transfer front over the past 12 months with only three players being welcomed to Stamford Bridge. However, the Blues were forced to fork out some considerable transfer fees – the highest of which being the club record arrival of Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku.

Chelsea’s commitments did not end there though. A number of new contracts also fell inside the period, the likes of Thiago Silva, Trevoh Chalobah and Emerson Palmieri – to name just a few – penning fresh terms at Stamford Bridge.
Whilst the Blues’ pay-out is considerable – and contributes to the overall £272million paid by all of the clubs currently in the Premier League – it is still some way below the highest figures in the division. Current champions Manchester City possess the highest fees having paid out slightly over £35million over the past 12 months, with the likes of city neighbours Manchester United not too far behind
On the other hand, there are also clubs that have not got anywhere near to those figures. London rivals Brentford in particular have only paid just under £3.5million in agents’ fees over the past year – an amount that is lower than a number of clubs currently plying their trade in the Championship.
