Former Tottenham and Belgium midfielder Mousa Dembele has hung his shoes on a nail at the age of 34. Dembele who has played with Guangzhou City in China since leaving Tottenham in 2019, started his career with Germinal Beerschot before transferring to Eredivisie’s Willem II team while still a teenager.

He impressed so much in his year with Willem II that he was immediately kidnapped by AZ Alkmaar, who was led by Louis van Gaal at the time. He would continue to make over 150 appearances for AZ over the next four years, winning the Eredivisie title in 2009 before moving to England.
