Spurs must avoid Arsenal’s Dusan Vlahovic mistake if they are to have a good ending to the January transfer window despite recent Luis Diaz and Adama Traore blows.
The aforementioned duo are set to sign for Liverpool and Barcelona, respectively, in the next few days, resulting in Fabio Paratici turning towards Swedish star Dejan Kulusevski as the Italian is in a race against time to satisfy Antonio Conte.
Kulusevski, 21, has made 20 appearances so far in Serie A this season with 78 per cent of those coming from the bench.
In those 20 games, the Swede has scored one goal and assisted three and with Dusan Vlahovic’s arrival coupled with the Old Lady being linked to a swoop for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, game time may appear limited for the young versatile forward.
According to the Athletic, after the latest Luis Diaz and Adama Traore blows, the Lilywhites are looking to move on from those situations as Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici aim to save the January transfer window with a few last minute signings.
They are reporting that Tottenham Hotspur are working on a deal to sign Kulusevski from Juventus on a loan deal with an option to buy.
The report has reaffirmed that ‘Antonio Conte has made it clear his new side must revamp their squad if they are to challenge at the top end of the Premier League.’
Alternatively, if this deal wasn’t to materialise for the Arsenal admirer, former Chelsea flop Alvaro Morata could be given a second chance to make his name in the Premier League as Juve look to cut costs following Vlahovic’s expected arrival in Turin.
Arsenal have already suffered heartbreak in their pursuit of the Serbian marksmen but Spurs targeting and pursing both Kulusevski and Morata in the final days of the window could be important if they are to avoid the Gunners’ mistake.
Initially, it looked like multiple strikers would be on Edu’s agenda if Vlahovic snubbed a mid-season move to the Premier League but this wasn’t the case, with all talk on a new No. 9 for the Gunners ending, with Vlahovic’s future seemingly decided.
Could Kulusevski follow suit and snub a move to England in favour of a Serie A stay?
AC Milan are reportedly interested in making their move and at the same time could heap more misery on Spurs, although terms in negotiations mean Tottenham currently have the advantage over them.
Sport Italia journalist Gianluigi Longari has reported that it’s ‘true’ regarding AC Milan’s late interest.
However, the club directors, Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara, are keen on signing him on loan with an option to buy. As for the Bianconeri, they want to let him go on loan with an obligation to buy.
At this point, it seems as though Spurs have since made more progression but they must be wary because Arsenal were in the same predicament before Juve beat the Gunners to the signing of Vlahovic.
Furthermore, whilst there is some optimism that circumstances won’t unfold in the same way, Spurs may need a contingency plan like Morata if the red side of Milan were to be aggressive in their approach with less than four days now remaining in the transfer window.
Regarding signing a new midfielder from the same club, football.london understands that Paratici has also held talks this month with the representatives of Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie about a potential move, but that is currently deemed unlikely.
