Thomas Tuchel has been told Chelsea already have their ideal Declan Rice midfield partner

West Ham manager David Moyes has indirectly told Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel that Jorginho could be the perfect midfield partner for Declan Rice if the Blues are able to prise the Hammers star away from east London in the upcoming transfer windows.

Rice, 22, has been linked heavily to making a west London return, especially since the Frank Lampard days where the club legend himself identified West Ham’s number 41 as the perfect long-term solution for the European Champions’ midfield problem.

With Jorginho’s over exertion and ‘pain’ suffered since his crammed season in the 2020/21 campaign with club and country, coupled with N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic’s constant injury woes, new midfielders are certainly an area that Chelsea will be looking into as the January transfer window opens.

But what about January?

Well, Aurelien Tchouameni is a name that the club have been scouting for numerous years now with understanding that Marina Granovskaia and co. made contact to his entourage in the summer but didn’t want to take the risk back then.

Could Tchouameni and Rice be the future of the Blues’ midfield?

Perhaps, but Moyes himself has suggested who would be the perfect midfield partner for his star, who he has valued in the past at above £100million.

Ahead of the London derby on Saturday against Crystal Palace, the Scotsman gave Tuchel a big hint as to whom would suit playing alongside the Three Lions international.

The West Ham boss said: “There’s not many better. I think if you break Declan down, you might say: ‘Well OK, I want you to become even better in your passing’.

“So you can look at Frenkie De Jong or you can look at Jorginho. You could look at people who are really tidy football players.”

Jorginho and Rice- an unexpected pairing that could prove to be a passing juggernaut in the centre of the park for the west Londoners as they look ahead to the future.

But will this ever come to fruition?

Maybe, European football could be the key and despite a great start to the 2021/22 campaign, injuries have led to a recent Premier League form dip for the Hammers that has put the prospect of another European journey in jeopardy, unless the east London outfit were to win the Europa League.

Former Wales international Dean Saunders has warned West Ham that the east London club need to spend big over the January transfer window in order to keep the likes of Rice happy with the project at the London Stadium.

Speaking to The Sports Bar, Saunders said: “I don’t think West Ham are the same team without Antonio. He’s a massive player for them. He does all the chasing down and is a nuisance on the break.

“He runs down the sides, strong as an ox, and gets goals. The owners have been chucking money at it for a while now. When Pellegrini was the manager, they gave him a load of money and that did not work.

“David Moyes, they get him back and he has got a team together now. If I was one of the owners now, I’d be saying: ‘What do you need, David?’.

“West Ham are on the brink of the next step. This is the best team they have had for years and years. They have got really good players.

“The thing is now, if they do not show the players they are going to take the next step, your best players will leave. If they can see you are trying to win something and going to go forward, the likes of Declan Rice will be saying: ‘I’m happy here’.

“If you are not buying players and going forward, then you are going backwards.”

From the Iron’s perspective, understands that West Ham have never received a bid for Rice and would not welcome one. The midfielder is understood to be happy at the club and on a long-term deal that does not expire until 2024 with the club holding an option to extend for a further 12 months.
