Jules Kounde has sent Marina Granovskaia a cryptic transfer message with his seven-word tweet as constant talk of a Chelsea transfer continues amid the current defensive conundrum.
Kounde, 23, has established himself as a long-term target of the club with Thomas Tuchel a known admirer of the Sevilla defender who could be the first of many to be signed as part of a defensive reshuffle.
A deal could have happened last summer if it weren’t for Monchi and co. at the La Liga club moving the goal posts at the 12th hour.
But it seems as though this itself hasn’t deterred the club from reigniting their pursuit of a player described by many as one of the best in La Liga currently in his position.
According to ESPN, Sevilla are willing to drop their €80million (£68million) valuation of Kounde, which could allow the Blues to swoop in and make a move before next summer.
The Spanish side are now reportedly willing to accept a fee in the region of €50million to €60million (£42.5million to £51million), with the defender now in the final two-and-a-half years of his contract.
The report says a move in the summer is more likely than in January, but given Chelsea’s defensive requirements, Tuchel could accelerate a potential transfer if the price drops sufficiently.
Kounde is also said to be keen on a move to Stamford Bridge and has reportedly agreed a contract of around four or five years in preparation for a transfer.
It seems as though the Frenchman’s impeding move to west London could be at the detriment of Cesar Azpilicueta, with many outlets saying that the captain is very close to sealing a summer move to Barcelona.
At the same time, the futures of Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger and Thiago Silva remain uncertain with the latter of the trio the most likely currently to pen a new deal with the European Champions that will keep him here past the summer.
Therefore, with all things taken into consideration, it’s no surprise to see a defensive signing like a Kounde high up on the priority list alongside full-back signings and his message at the start of this new year has served as an indication to what is about to happen in this situation.
As 2022 approached on Friday night, Kounde posted before midnight on his Twitter account: ‘“New year new me, same me though.”’
A message that has sent Chelsea fans into a frenzy with many believing that this message has strong connotations to their club for the January transfer window which has now officially opened.
