Chelsea could be forced into the January transfer market after Ben Chilwell has been ruled out for the season through an injury to his knee ligaments.
The 25-year-old left-back suffered an injury against Juventus last month and it has now emerged that he will require surgery on his knee this week – ruling him out for the remainder of the campaign.
That leaves Thomas Tuchel with just Marcos Alonso as a natural option for the left wing-back role, meaning the German coach could be forced into the transfer market next month.
One man that continues to be linked with a move to Chelsea is Lucas Digne, so, with that being said, football.london rounds up everything that is being reported on the Everton defender.
Digne’s row with Benitez
According to a report from The Athletic earlier in December, Digne was left out of the Everton squad for their win against Arsenal because of a ‘disagreement’ with Toffees boss Rafael Benitez.
Benitez left the Frenchman out of his 20-man squad to face the Gunners earlier in the month, with the report claiming the manager’s relationship with Digne took ‘another turn for the worse’.
Digne is said to be frustrated with his role in the Everton manager’s set-up, as well as being annoyed after he was taken off set-piece duty at Goodison Park.
Everton stance over exit
According to Alfredo Pedulla, Digne will leave Everton over the January transfer window, despite still having three-and-a-half years remaining on his contract at Goodison.
The Toffees are said to be ‘willing’ to allow the 28-year-old to leave the club on a loan deal with an option to buy once the contract reaches its conclusion.
Chelsea decision after Chilwell injury
After Chilwell was ruled out for the rest of the season, Goal are now saying that Chelsea ‘could attempt to convince’ Everton to allow Digne to move on loan to their Premier League rivals when the transfer market opens in the New Year.
They also report that the France international is being offered to numerous clubs ahead of a January switch.
The Telegraph are also reporting that Barcelona defender Sergino Dest is an option for the Blues, with the USA international able to play on the right and left-hand side of defence.
Lyon loanee and Coventry City’s Ian Maatsen are options to be recalled due to the left-back shortage, also.
