The January transfer window opens later this week and it remains to be seen whether we will be flooded with rumours that dominated the summer.
Erling Haaland was wanted by Chelsea over the summer transfer window, but the Blues ended up signing Romelu Lukaku for a club record fee of £97.5million.
With Haaland reportedly having a £68m release clause in his contract with Borussia Dortmund that becomes active at the end of the season, speculation over his future in Germany is inevitable.
The 21-year-old striker is well renowned as the hottest prospect in world football right now, with absolutely staggering numbers at such a young age, so interest from top European clubs, including Chelsea, is hardly surprising.
With so many rumours circulating regarding his future, football.london has done its best to round up the latest speculation over a move to Chelsea – and you can find that below.
Major Chelsea decision made
Haaland “doesn’t like” Chelsea or the Premier League ahead of the summer transfer window, according to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio.
The Norway international does not see the English top-flight as part of his “dreams” at the moment, and would rather a move elsewhere, it is being reported.
Di Marzio told German outlet Wettfreunde: “He doesn’t like the Premier League too much. It is not in his dreams. It is not the perfect league at the moment.
“He prefers La Liga – he likes Liga a lot. So, I think in his thoughts, La Liga is the perfect tournament, now, to play in. Or Bundesliga, where he is currently playing.
“So it is not sure that he’ll leave in the summer. Borussia Dortmund thinks that for his career, another year there should be the right step.
“I don’t know what Mino Raiola (Haaland’s agent) thinks about it. I think Raiola wants to get him out of Borussia Dortmund because after two years there it is important for him to have another challenge. So I think he will try to find the right solution for him.”
Rangnick eyes Man Utd move
Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick is ‘pushing’ for the club to sign Haaland in the summer, according to our sister title Manchester Evening News.
Rangnick, who has a contract until the end of the season at Old Trafford, has recently spoken to Haaland’s father, Alf-Inge, about the possibility of signing his son next summer.
Haaland came close to joining United two years ago, but chose a move to Borussia Dortmund instead, where he has flourished ever since.
Tuchel’s view on Haaland transfer
Speaking back in October, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel admitted the Blues are interested in signing Haaland.
It was hardly a secret that the European champions liked the 21-year-old forward, but Tuchel even went public with the club’s stance over the Dortmund sensation earlier in the year.
“We talked about Erling Haaland a couple of times, including during the transfer window. But then it seemed absolutely unrealistic and not at all feasible,” the German coach told Bild.
“We talk about him regularly, of course, because he’s a fantastic player and clearly the defining figure at Dortmund, who is a big rival for us in the Champions League.
“You mean two at the top [with] Lukaku and Haaland? We can talk about it!
“I don’t think we’ve been really serious about it yet, but let’s see what will happen in the next few weeks.”
