On-loan Chelsea youngster Conor Gallagher has been Crystal Palace’s standout performer so far this season, as an impressive stat has now revealed.
The 21-year-old, who netted his fifth and sixth goals of the season on Sunday in Palace’s 3-1 win over Everton, has recorded 11 goal-creating actions in the Premier League, a number that is only bettered this season by Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.
A goal-creating action is defined by the last two offensive actions before a goal is scored. Although Salah is much further ahead on 19, Gallagher’s form shows how much of a talented player he is.
His attacking threat earned him an England cap last month, albeit after some withdrawals, and he will be hoping to get called up again in March.
He will have to do so whilst playing for Palace, however.
Reports have suggested that Chelsea will not be able to recall either Gallagher or Billy Gilmour from their season-long loans in January.
As reported by The Athletic, due to the conditions of the break clause in their deals with Crystal Palace and Norwich City respectively, the duo have made enough appearances for their loan sides to prevent a January recall from being activated by their parent club.
As exclusively revealed by football.london last week, Gallagher was not expecting to be recalled to Chelsea in January. The midfielder is enjoying his football under Patrick Vieira and is happy with how he is progressing as a player.
He wants to make the spot his own in Thomas Tuchel’s side in 2022/23 and he is going the right way about it, too.
With six goals and three assists in just 15 games – for a Palace side who sit 13th in the table it’s worth adding – he’s certainly sending the Chelsea boss a message that he’s worth selecting in the future.
