FIFA have confirmed that the Club World Cup will be held in February in the UAE.

The competition will run from February 3 to February 12, 2022.

The contenders for the trophy were confirmed over the weekend and the draw is set to take place on Monday (17.00 CET).

Initially the Club World Cup was expected to be an expanded version of the competition in 2021, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic this was postponed.

The usual format was then planned for Japan in the latter part of the year but the Japan Football Association pulled out due to the possibility of restrictions on fan attendance. Bidding was reopened with FIFA announcing the UAE as the new host in October.

The Blues will enter the competition, thanks to their Champions League win, at the semi-final stage, alongside Copa Libertadores winners, Palmeiras, with the two teams in the opposite side of the draw.

Chelsea’s previous outing in the competition saw them finish 2nd in 2012. Rafael Benitez was in charge as the Blues defeated Monterrey 3-1 before losing 1-0 to Corinthians in the final of the competition.
