What Man Utd star Scott McTominay shouted at referee Anthony Taylor after Marcos Alonso decision

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay was left furious with referee Anthony Taylor after he fouled Marcos Alonso in the first-half of their clash with Chelsea.

There was plenty of build-up for the showdown on Sunday afternoon, but the first-half definitely failed to live up to its expectations.

There were few opportunities in the opening period, but Chelsea certainly had the better of the exchanges in west London, with Antonio Rudiger coming the closest.

Rudiger smashed the ball from just outside the box and it was hit sweetly – with David De Gea getting a fingertip to the ball before it hit the crossbar and cannoned back out.

A moment of intrigue in the first-half was what McTominay furiously shouted at referee Taylor after he was deemed to have fouled Alonso.

When Taylor signalled that it was indeed a foul from McTominay and also a booking, the Manchester United and Scotland midfielder could be heard shouting: “Are you joking?” in the referee’s direction.

Taylor clearly was not joking, though, much to McTominay’s disgust – and Chelsea were awarded the free-kick.

Anyway, United ended up taking the lead in west London, when Jadon Sancho capitalised on a Jorginho mistake in the middle of the pitch, before slotting the ball into the bottom right-hand corner.

However, Jorginho made up for his error, when the Italy midfielder scored from the penalty spot in, with a typically calm pass into the back of the net.

After the game, Thomas Tuchel admitted that it feels like two points dropped rather than one gained.

He said: “Yes, for sure (two points dropped). It is hard to imagine we could lose this – or drop points – because we were the better team, the team that set the rhythm, the intensity, and had high ball wins.

“We are disappointed but we have no regrets. This can happen in football, we know it. It does not feel good when it happens but it is like this. I have told the team I am happy with the performance and the way we played.”
