Chelsea supporters were left frustrated with Jorginho after the midfielder made what looked like being a costly mistake in their clash with Manchester United on Sunday.
The Blues conceded in the second-half after the ball fell from high in the air for Jorginho, who tried to kill the ball with a clever touch, but it did not go to plan whatsoever.
The Italy international’s touch was loose and Jadon Sancho capitalised on that, nicking the ball off the midfielder as the England forward made no mistake in his two-on-one battle against Edouard Mendy with Marcus Rashford up alongside him.
Chelsea supporters, when taking to Twitter after the mistake from Jorginho, expressed their anger, with one even making a point about this year’s Ballon d’Or, with the Italian among the nominees.
Despite making the mistake, Jorginho redeemed himself somewhat, with the Italian converting the equaliser from the penalty spot after Aaron Wan-Bissaka fouled Thiago Silva in the box.
The Blues star has enjoyed a fine year for club and country, with the 29-year-old winning the UEFA Champions League and Super Cup with Chelsea, as well as the Euro 2020 trophy with Italy.
The man himself recently spoke about his chances of winning the famous golden ball in an interview with GloboEsporte, and admitted that it is at the forefront of his mind.
“I don’t want to have too many expectations, but I would be hypocritical if I said I don’t think about it,” Jorginho said.
“It’s great if it happens, but if it doesn’t, I won’t complain. I keep my feet on the ground and I focus on something else, I’ve already won the best player of the year by UEFA.
“It’s not up to me to say if I should win the Ballon d’Or, but it would be an incentive for other players, to show that not only goals are taken into account.”
Jorginho also revealed that he would be voting for Kevin de Bruyne to win the award, saying: “I believe I’d vote for Kevin de Bruyne for everything he’s been doing and for the beautiful football he’s been showing in recent years.
“For those who like football, it’s great to see him play because he understands football, he is a player with above-average intelligence.”
