Edu has been given a stern warning that he must be ready to sign a striker after Alexandre Lacazette confirmed he is looking for a move elsewhere.

The Frenchman’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season and has been linked with a move away from the Gunners since the summer transfer window when the club put him up for sale.

Arsenal have been linked with a number of forwards and will need to act fast due to a striker shortage that is approaching Mikel Arteta’s team.

Speaking to French outlet Telefoot, Lacazette spoke about his transfer situation with Arsenal. “Of course, my agents are starting to look to the right and to the left,” he said.

“But not until January, I really want to focus myself on something.

“And then we will see what is on offer if the challenges are interesting if there are beautiful projects, how they are counting on me…so there are still many questions, I prefer to wait until January to position myself.”

Lacazette has been at the Gunners since 2015 after signing for a club-record fee of £50 million. His career at Arsenal has been inconsistent and disrupted with injuries, which is a reason he could depart on a free transfer.

He isn’t the only striker who looks set to be leaving the club, however, as Eddie Nketiah’s contract is also set to expire at the end of the season.

Eddie Nketiah could be one of two strikers leaving Arsenal in the coming months.

If both strikers do indeed depart the Emirates Stadium, this will leave Arteta’s squad short going forward, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Folarin Balogun the only strikers remaining in the team.

Fans were calling for Edu to sign a striker in the summer transfer window, which never managed to materialise, but his hand to sign a forward has now been forced due to a potential attacking crisis.

The club has been heavily linked with strikers Dusan Vlahovic and Alexander Isak in recent weeks, and Edu will need to do everything in his power to secure one of their signatures.

It would be wiser for Arsenal to allow Lacazette to sign a pre-contract agreement with another club that he can join in the summer, rather than offloading him in January with Aubameyang set for a period away at the African Cup of Nations.

Hunting for a striker in the summer transfer window will be much more feasible, as more players will become available.
