Chelsea prediction made for Man United as Carrick told what he must do to cause Tuchel problems

Chelsea and Manchester United clash at Stamford Bridge in another huge Premier League fixture on Sunday afternoon.

The Blues will be looking to stretch their lead at the top of the table while Michael Carrick will be eager to end his stint as caretaker boss with a second win.

Ralf Rangnick looks set to come in as interim manager at Old Trafford following the recent sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but that deal is not likely to go through until next week.

The Red Devils have been in a shoddy run of form while Thomas Tuchel’s troops have gone from strength-to-strength. It is safe to say United will not be too keen on facing that side that thrashed Juventus in midweek.

Ahead of kick-off, pundits have been having their say on how they see the match unfolding, and here we take a look at them.

Paul Merson

There is no fence-sitting to be seen here with Paul Merson predicting an emphatic 3-0 win for Chelsea.

“I can’t see anything but a Chelsea win here. They’ll squeeze and dominate the game, and they’ll probably have about 70% of the ball,” he told Sportskeeda.

“Manchester United will set up with [Cristiano] Ronaldo up front, and he’s not running away from anybody.

“They need pace on the wings, and they need a player like [Edinson] Cavani to press Chelsea high up the pitch. As it stands, however, I think Chelsea will break them down comfortably.”

Michael Owen

Owen is in a agreement with Merson, in that he can only see a Chelsea win coming from the clash.

“Super Sunday sees Manchester United visit Stamford Bridge. Michael Carrick got the desired reaction from his players midweek, although this is a bigger test,” Owen wrote in his BetVictor blog.

“Chelsea were awesome against Juventus. They’re defensively rock solid, something that you must be if you have aspirations of winning the title.

“I think Carrick will play the likes of Van de Beek and Sancho again here, but Chelsea, for me, are just too strong. I’m siding with the Blues to take all three points.”

Dimitar Berbatov

Former United striker Dimitar Berbatov has faith that Carrick can get a result at Chelsea, but also insists that they will have to be at their very best.

“I hope United can get something at Chelsea on Sunday but it’s going to need a great effort because the Blues are playing great football,” the Bulgarian told Betfair.

“Chelsea get the results, whether they play ugly of attractive football. At the moment, they’re scoring goals with ease.

“But United are capable of beating Chelsea. As much as there is still a bit of Ole there, Carrick has ideas that he will want to help implement in the team going forward.

“So I’ll be curious to see what these new things are going to be. I wish for United to get a good result, but it’s going to take a really big effort.”
