Mason Mount and Thomas Tuchel share the same concern ahead of Chelsea vs Manchester United

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has agreed with manager Thomas Tuchel that it is impossible to write Manchester United off due to the unpredictability of their performances.

Recent weeks have seen the Red Devils lose 5-0 to Liverpool, beat Tottenham 3-0 and lose 4-1 to Watford. In Michael Carrick’s first game as caretaker manager, they beat Villarreal 2-0 in midweek.

United currently sit in eighth place, 12 points adrift of Tuchel’s table-toppers and have lost four of their last five Premier League matches.

But during his pre-match press conference on Friday, the German insisted he is taking nothing for granted, despite the poor form of the Blues’ opponents.

“I will never write anyone off, not in this league and not in this game. It is a big club and a very experienced and top-level group of players,” he said.

“This is still the case and part of the performance from us on Sunday is to not let them perform.

“Once you let them perform, you can see in seconds and minutes the full potential and talent of these players at the highest level.”

With the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood in their ranks, it is easy to see why Tuchel is remaining wary of United.

Mount struck a similar tone ahead of kick-off as well, looking back on the transformation the Blues went through following the sacking of Frank Lampard.

“We’ve obviously recently gone through that kind of period where we’ve changed managers,” Mount said in an interview with Sky Sports ahead of the clash.

“It can go one way where all the players want to prove something and they’re at the top of their game. Obviously, if that happens you’ve got to be ready for that.

“But it’s a tough one to read and go into because you don’t know what they’re going to come with. You saw the last game they played. They played very well at Villarreal in the Champions League and they win 2-0.

“So we have to be prepared for anything and be ready for a very tough game. It’s Man United. The players they’ve got. Top-class players and individually they can produce anything on the day.”
