Disappointed with the result today?

I’m really disappointed with the result. More disappointed by the performance. Today we didn’t play well enough. We didn’t move the ball quick enough we didn’t defend well as a team and the consequence is not getting anything from the game.

VAR call on Douglas Luiz the right one?

I think that decision was the right decision. I had the chance to see it after the game and I think the referee going back to his decision as the right one.

Not good enough going forward?

Yes, it is frustrating. They were really compact and it was difficult to find players between the line. We tried to go wider. When we managed to find Tyrick or Mitchell we didn’t have enough runners behind the back four to stretch them. That was the frustration, not moving the ball quick enough and not running in behind.

Any positives to take?

As a team, it wasn’t a good performance in and out of possession. You will lose a game – that’s down to the time and the moment – but it’s more about the performance I’m not happy about.

Missing Joachim Andersen made it difficult?

Joachim has been playing all the games and he’s important to how we want to play. We have enough players around to play better than we did today. Collectively we didn’t play well enough.

Zaha and Milivojevic both subbed off – any reason behind that?

They both had a yellow card and that was one of the reasons.

Do you know when he’ll be back?

No, we don’t know yet. He will do more exams tomorrow then we will find out maybe on Monday morning.

Playing Steven Gerrard as a manager rather than a player – different?

No, there wasn’t any kind of difference. He is a manager like any other manager in the Premier League. I was concentrating on how we wanted to play the game and he was the same himself. Villa played really well, they were compact and made it difficult for us. We couldn’t play our normal game. We were a little bit too slow to give them problems but I think we made it comfortable for them today, especially in the first half.
