Germany coach Hansi Flick has hinted Lukas Nmecha could make his first senior international start in tomorrow’s World Cup qualifier against Liechtenstein.

With the likes of Timo Werner, Karim Adeyemi and Serge Gnabry ruled out, the 22-year-old Wolfsburg forward could make his way into Flick’s starting eleven for the game, which will be played at his home ground, Volkswagen Arena.

“Lukas Nmecha showed why he’s here in training yesterday. Maybe he will start at his home ground tomorrow. I hereby fuel the speculation,” said Flick at the pre-match press conference.

“I appreciate Kevin Volland very much. He has been in good form at Monaco. Unfortunately, Timo Werner is not there, and Karim Adeyemi had to leave. Now other players will get their chance.”

Thomas Müller also found praise for Nmecha at todya’s press conference.

“The best striker in the world, Robert Lewandowski, is physically strong, but isn’t a rock. Lukas is perhaps quite close to this ideal. I hope he can continue the good run at Wolfsburg with the national team,” said Müller.

“He has already scored a few typical number 9 goals in training. He feels comfortable in the box and is hungry for goals.”

Nmecha has scored four goals in his last five games for Wolfsburg. He scored the winner as Germany’s U21 side won the European Championship with a 1-0 win over Portugal in the summer.
