Arsenal are reportedly ‘plotting’ a move for Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, over four years after he left the Emirates Stadium.

The 28-year-old, who is valued at £16.2million on Transfermarkt, has less than two years remaining on his contract at Anfield and is somewhat out of favour under Jurgen Klopp.

At the moment, it looks unlikely that Liverpool will offer Oxlade-Chamberlain a contract extension, with the English midfielder struggling with injury problems during his time on Merseyside.

The former Gunners star has impressed at times when he has been fit enough to get himself on the pitch, but Klopp has been unable to use him for long periods during his time with the club.

According to The Sun, Arsenal are ‘considering’ making a shock move for their former midfielder, with Mikel Arteta weighing up the prospect of a reunion with his old team-mate.

Liverpool icon John Barnes recently told Oxlade-Chamberlain that he needs to leave the club for the good of his career, with the ex-Gunners man far down in Klopp’s pecking order.

Barnes told BettingOdds.com: “I think [he should join] Leicester or West Ham.

“Leicester would probably be a bit better suited because they’re more stable than West Ham as they know that they will be in the top seven most seasons, which isn’t the case for West Ham.

“However, if he wanted to go back down south then I think West Ham would be a good move for Alex, too.”

So far this season, Oxlade-Chamberlain has made just two appearances in the Premier League for the Reds, with just one start to his name – and has not featured since last month’s victory away at Leeds United.

Arsene Wenger signed Oxlade-Chamberlain from Southampton back in 2011 for a reported fee of £12m and he went on to spend six years in north London before leaving the club for Liverpool in 2017, with the decision said to be heavily based on the Reds’ promise to play him in the centre of midfield.
