Spirits are high in a depleted Arsenal camp ahead of the return to Premier League action a week on Monday.

That’s no surprise given the turnaround made by Mikel Arteta’s side since the last international break where they went into sit sitting bottom of the Premier League table after three straight defeats.

Since then Arsenal have beaten Norwich City, Burnley and Tottenham Hotspur before earning a battling point away at Brighton & Hove Albion to now sit 11th in the table by virtue of an inferior goal difference to Aston Villa.

Furthermore, the Gunners are also into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup thanks to a routine 3-0 win over League One side AFC Wimbledon.

The competition will come back into focus in a couple of weeks with Leeds United the visitors to the Emirates Stadium, but before that, Arsenal host Crystal Palace and Aston Villa in the league.

And ahead of the London derby which will also mark Patrick Vieira’s return, the first-team players who haven’t been called up by their respective nations have been put through their paces in training at the club’s London Colney base.

Although, there was an unfortunate moment for a group of players including Alexandre Lacazette, Sambi Lokonga and Jack Wilshere who is training with the club to maintain his fitness levels in the hope of finding a new club as well as doing his coaching badges.

The trio along with Ben White, Pablo Mari and Calum Chambers were all tasked with an exercise that focused on ensuring the ball ended up inside the tub.

In addition, it was a race against Rob Holding, Cedric, Eddie Nketiah, Gabriel Magalhaes, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and wonderkid Tim Akinola.

There could only be one winning team and unfortunately for White, Wilshere and company, they were pipped to the finishing line.

As a result, all six players had to do push-ups as their forfeit which can be seen at around the 0.48-minute mark from the club’s ‘Inside Arsenal training’ YouTube video.

All of which led to a hilarious moment involving Arteta and Lacazette.

International call-ups mean reduced first-team numbers at London Colney.

Bukayo Saka and Aaron Ramsdale are with the England senior squad for games against Andorra and Hungary, while summer signings Takehiro Tomiyasu and Martin Odegaard are away with Japan and Odegaard respestively.

Meanwhile, Gabriel Martinelli was absent from the session too, although he appears to have been given time off and posted an image of himself relaxing in Portugal.
