Chelsea loanee and current Southampton forward Armando Broja is on a red-hot streak regarding his form on the international stage for Albania.
Broja, 20, hasn’t let his limited appearances for the Saints deter the brilliance that he keeps delivering on the international scene as his 80th-minute winner has put his home nation in a good place in England’s World Cup qualifying group.
His aforementioned strike – which saw him run down the right, cut in and fire home superbly from a tight angle in a 1-0 win vs Hungary – means that he has now scored three goals in their senior squad since making his debut in 2020, despite only starting eight games for his country so far.
In an attempt to gain more game time, the Blues allowed him to leave on loan and he joined Southampton, scoring on his first appearance in an 8-0 victory over Newport County.
There’s no doubt Broja has plenty of potential to make it as a top number nine in the future and he showcased exactly this at Vitesse last season with his 11 goals in 34 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea’s so-called feeder club.
The Albanian international’s first goal against the same opposition earlier in the group stages prompted comparisons to Diego Costa and Didier Droga, but the topic on social media on Saturday night was all centred around his long-term future with the European Champions following indifferent form, fortune and luck for club and country so far in this 2021/22 campaign.
Here was the best of the reaction to his goal at the start of the October international period, with some believing Thomas Tuchel should reverse his initial loan decision, and recall the striker in January.
@Mewithurchest reckons: ‘Deserves to start for both club and country. His time will surely come.’
@SuperAidi hopes the 20-year-old can have a role in west London next season: ‘Needs to be second choice striker next season.’
@TweetChelseaUK gave his five-word verdict: ‘Armando Broja, he scores goals.’
@IsaacKalengo has made a bold statement: ‘I think Chelsea should recall him in January from Southampton if the minutes don’t improve and send him somewhere he’s going to play more.’
@Bregu_ had a simple message: ‘Recall Broja, @ChelseaFC.’
@MunkDoran replied: ‘On that display he should be sent straight in to the first team.’
Talk then turned to comparisons for the striker and this time Costa’s name wasn’t mentioned which came as a surprise.
@saintshedrack tweeted: ‘This guy reminds me of prime Torres.’
@ChelseaBias made a more outstanding comparison: ‘What a brilliant individual goal he scored. If that was Messi…’
